Berhampur,Jan. 3, 2019: Father Prakash Tirkey has been elected as the new provincial of the Vincentian fathers and brothers of North Indian Province of the Congregation of the Mission (CM) on January 2.
He was ordained on August 4, 1994. He served as principal at Sacred Heart School at Rayagada, Odisha and De Paul School, Kolkata.
In 1998, he was appointed as a parish priest at St. Mary, the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Miraculous Medal church at Ghatiduba of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.
Father Tirkey also was a member of staff at CM minor seminary (Jyotinivas) at Baripoda of Balasore diocese, Odisha, Eastern India.
He succeeds Father Bijoy Kumar Nayak, CM.
The Congregation of the Mission was founded by St. Vincent De Paul in 1625. Today the Congregation of the Mission has about 4000 members in 46 provinces and five Vice provinces scattered over 85 countries in the world.
The Vincentian charism was introduced in India with the arrival of Spanish missionaries in 1922 in Odisha.
