Patna, Nov 18, 2019: The impact of social media was the focus of “Sadbhawna Samagam” (good will get-together), an annual interactive meet of parents and professors of a Jesuit college in Patna, capital of Bihar state.
Social media is very useful, but requires check on the misuse of its platforms, asserted the chief guest, Sanjay Kumar Kundan, a well-known poet and former deputy director of Education in Bihar government.
“Social media keeps you connected with a large number of people. So it is very helpful in creating social awareness on various issues and promoting social welfare schemes like Beti padhao, beti bacho (teach daughter, save daughter),” said Kundan at the November 17 program of St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, Patna.
On the flip side, social media was nowadays influencing people’s thinking ability, he said. “Addiction to social media was not only affecting people’s analytical thinking, but also causing sleep disturbances, Kundan added.
The chief guest said he was impressed by the commitment of the college principal and teachers towards shaping the future of students.
Earlier, members of Xavier Theatre Club staged a skit on misuse of social media.
Welcoming the guests, college principal Jesuit Father T Nishaant said parents were also part of the college family. Stating that education should be for life and not for livelihood alone, he asked parents to inculcate in their children reading habit in the era of social media.
Present among others were rector Jesuit Father Joseph Thadavanal, and vice principal Jesuit Father Martin Poras.
In the second session, parents and guardians were informed about the academic performance of their wards.
The event was organized by the social awareness committee of the college.
