Manila, Jan 2, 2020: Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, the outgoing Archbishop of Manila, is to hold the seventh Philippine Conference on New Evangelization (PCNE) before he assumes his new post in the Vatican in two months’ time.
He will convene the January 28-29 conference on the theme “Sino ang aking kapwa?” Who is my neighbor?” (Luke 10:29).
The theme resonates in celebration of the “Year of Ecumenism, interreligious Dialogue and Indigenous Peoples” which is being celebrated in 2020 by the Philippine Church.
The country is set to observe the 500th year of evangelization in 2021.
A brainchild of Cardinal Tagle, PCNE annually gathers more than 5,000 bishops, priests, nuns and laypeople for a weekend of praise, worship, catechism and sharing to strengthen Christian love for Jesus and missionary work.
PCNE is normally held in November.
Since Tagle is to assume his new post (Vatican’s top missionary department as prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, formerly Propaganda Fidei) in February, PCNE is anticipated to January.
