New Delhi, May 2, 2020: Lokpal member Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi has died after contracting coronavirus, sources said. He was admitted to AIIMS in Delhi on April 2. He was 62.

His daughter and cook, who had also tested positive for COVID-19, have recovered, sources said.

A former Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, Justice Tripathi had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) since April 5.

Justice Tripathi is one of the four judicial members of the anti-corruption body Lokpal.

Earlier on May 2, death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 1,223 and the number of cases climbed to 37,776 in the country, registering an increase of 71 deaths and a record jump of 2,411 cases in 24 hours.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 26,565, while 10,017 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, Health Ministry said.
