Patna, Aug 19, 2020: A webinar organized by a Jesuit college in Patna, Bihar, has called for breaking the taboo around menstruation and removing the myth and misconception related to it.
“Menstruation is still a taboo in India and it is common for people across society to feel uncomfortable about the subject,” Roshni Bhowmick, Unicharm India’s Corporate Social Responsibility executive, told the August 18 webinar organized by St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, Patna.
Observing that India society suffers from lack of information on the process of menstruation, Bhowmick asserted, “Good menstrual hygiene is crucial for the health, education, and dignity of girls and women.”
The webinar on ‘Menstrual Health and Hygiene,’ was organized exclusively for girl students of the college.
According to Bhowmick, menstrual health and hygiene are important issues that should be discussed with growing girls as any carelessness in this matter might lead to various health issues.
Equipping adolescent girls with adequate information and skills on menstrual hygiene and its management will not only empower them with knowledge but enhance their self-esteem and positively impacts their academic performance, she said.
She also shared simple and cost effective measures to practice safe menstruation.
