New Delhi: Religious Liberty Commission of Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) has called on the Christian community in the country to pray for Christians in a village of a central Indian state.

On September 22 and 23 several villages of Kondagaon in Chhattisgarh state, Christian families were attacked, and their houses were destroyed. Christians are being socially boycotted from these villages on account of their faith, says an EFI message on September 27.

According to sources, Christians of Kondagaon were being called at the village council meetings. They were threatened to denounce Christian faith and were being forcibly made to sign affidavits to deprive them of government welfare schemes.

One of the villages is Kakarbeda that falls under the jurisdiction of Kondagaon police station.

The affected Christians reported the matter to the police, but no concrete action is taken so far, said EFI.

Instead, police and administration are trying to settle the matter through negotiations. Christians are in a state of fear and shock, EFI added.

Around 16 houses were completely razed by villagers in Kakdabeda, Singnapur, and Tiliyabeda villages which fall under the Gram Panchayats of Chipawand and Singnapur.

Founded in 1951, EFI is the national alliance that includes over 54 Protestant denominations for a total of 65,000 communities spread across India, as well as 200 charitable missionary agencies and organizations.
