Guwzhati: The Assam Christian Forum on behalf of the Christian community in the northeastern Indian state on November 26 paid their respect and tribute to Tarun Gogoi, the former Chief Minister of Assam.

Gogoi died November 25 in a hospital in Guwahati, Assam’s commercial capital.

The ecumenical delegation was led by Archbishop John Moolachira, chairman of Assam Christian Forum and North East Catholic Bishops’ Council. They also laid a wreath at his mortal remains the lay in state at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra.

Other members in the delegation included Emeritus Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil of Guwahati, A K Goldsmith, secretary Assam Christian Forum. Allen Brooks, former member chairman of the Assam Minority Commission, Reverend T P Mordecai of the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India, D Barua from Assam Presbyterian Church; Capuchin provincial Father Mathew; Father John Paul, the chancellor of the Archdiocese of Guwahati; Father Joby, the parish priest of Dispur Cathedral.

The delegation also called on Dolly, Gogoi’s wife, at her residence and offered their condolences while assuring her and the entire family of their prayers.

Roselin Tirkey , a legislator of Sarupathat, accompanied them and facilitated the arrangements.

Gogoi’s last wish was to visit all places of worship before cremation.
