Mumbai: The Urban Community Development Centre (UCDC), Bandra, Mumbai, was honored, among others, by Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyarij for the selfless service during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The ceremony took place on November 1 at the Governor’s House.

UCDC is an NGO of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) missionaries under India Mumbai Province. The SVDs is the world’s largest Roman Catholic order of priests and brothers who focus on missionary work.

“On behalf of UCDC, I dedicate this honor to St. Arnold Youth Group and Volunteers,” said Divine Word Father Cosmos Ekka, a staff member.

He also thanked funding partners such as St. Augustine, Life Anchor Foundation and UCDC family for supporting humanitarian cause financially.

“We are grateful to Advocate Ashish Shelar, MLA and Swapna Mhatre of Mumbai Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for appreciating and acknowledging our efforts,” Father Ekka said.

Noted Hindi film director, producer and screenwriter Subhash Ghai, film and theater personality Prashant Damle and Corporator Alkatai Kerker were among the Corona Warriors felicitated by the Governor.

Established in 1971, UCDC has been at the service of community development. It continues to serve the poor and vulnerable groups through its medical outreach and literacy programs.

It has a Legal Cell meant for the poor and the underprivileged. Three advocates volunteer their services at this cell.

The whole set-up of UCDC consists of people who are genuinely concerned about the underprivileged in society and who are interested in bringing about a positive change in their lives.
