New Delhi: The Bajrang Dal has denied involvement in a controversial March 19 incident where two nuns and two students were forced alight from a train in Jhansi over an alleged forced conversion complaint and questioned by railway police.

According to reports, Bajrang Dal activists and police questioned the nuns, who are members of the Sacred Heart congregation under the Kerala-based Syro-Malabar Church.

The alleged Hindu radicals accused the nuns of taking the two women for forcible conversion.

Railway police later said the complaint against the nuns was found to be without basis, and the women were allowed to board another train to their destination in Odisha.

The Bajrang Dal statement came March 24 hours after Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan alleged in a letter to federal Home Minister Amit Shah that the four nuns were “harassed” by Bajrang Dal members during their train journey.

“Bajrang Dal has nothing to do with this incident. Due to the anti-Hindu mindset the Church lobby sees Bajrang Dal in every incident,” said Bajrang Dal national convener Sohan Singh.

“It is the church lobby that is behind this. If you look at the FIR or the complaint, there is no mention of Bajrang Dal. It is an eight-day-old case but soon after we got to know about it, we enquired from our Jhansi team and they denied any involvement,” he added.

Singh shared a copy of the complaint to back his claim. The complaint mentions members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) — the RSS student wing — as the purported complainants.

Singh said efforts are being made to defame the Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of the Vishva Hindu Parishad, as “more people are joining it”.

“Bajrang Dal is becoming stronger as more Hindus, especially the youth, are connecting with us after seeing our work, especially during the coronavirus lockdown, during the donation drive for Ram Mandir,” he added. “It is because of this a campaign is being run to ensure people stay away from us. But the Hindu youth is well aware of these tactics and won’t fall for it.”

In his letter, Vijayan asked Shah to instruct the authorities concerned to take strict action against all groups and individuals who “disrupt and impair the freedom of individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution”. Such incidents, he said, tarnish the image of the nation and its “ancient tradition of religious tolerance and practice”. Shah has promised strong action against the perpetrators.

  1. When nobody lodged the complaint against the nuns and no groups or individuals are involved in complaining against those nuns then on what basis the railway police arrested those nuns ? then how safe are the Indian railways for travelling ?will Government of India take any action against those police who arrested those innocent nuns for no fault of theirs and retain them in their custody for no reason ? Very shocking and surprising !!!!

  2. Bajrang Dal/ ABVP didn’t involve !
    Muslim brotherhood didn’t claim !
    Rival Christians groups (RC-Baptist-Protestant) didn’t claim !
    Then who ?
Then the culprits must be some fickle minded people who don’t have the courageous to tell the truth, or it mus be some Pakistani design, who try to defame India.
Are all such “Shadowed Cowardice People” be called BASTARDs, whose identity never assertained, and who commit the crime but remain elusive.

  3. The Bajrangdal denies its involvement. Then where did the Hindu slogan shouting group with lances and weapons emerge? From the sanctuaries of the Church? The video footage must be duplicate made by nuns! Are we all dungheaded to believe such nonsense?

  4. Yes it is getting shrouded in mystery. I happened to see a video where the presenter alleges that the nuns picked up a conversation with fellow travelers. This is a normal behavior of Indians while travelling. Then the nuns started talking about Jesus as being the only way to salvation etc. This apparently didn’t go down well with some. Someone then alerted some outside and trouble ensued at Jhansi.

There has to be detailed investigation and wrong doers punished. As for Kerala CM, he is doing what any other non BJP CM would do, get maximum mileage out of this to curry favour with Christians in this election bound State.

  5. The incident is getting murkier. The police were present in the train, the platform, the crowd shouting slogan were present in the police compound as per reports. Why did the police not record their Statment.?
Since the matter was video recorded, it will not be difficult for the police to bring the violators to justice.
