Kiliyanthra, Feb 9, 2022: A Catholic nun from India died in a car accident in Connecticut in the United States of America.

Sister Anila Puthenthara died at 11 pm February 6 (9:30 am Indian time on February 7) while going for duty in St Joseph’s Livil Nursing Home. She was 40.

Two other nuns who were with her received serious wounds, reports Kerala’s Malayala Manorama newspaper.

The nuns belonged to the St Joseph’s province of the Missionary Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, a congregation based in the southern Indian state of Kerala.

Their car slipped off the road because of heavy rain and storm and hit another car.

Sister Puthenthara was the daughter of Kuriakose and Clara, residents of adiyadka village in Kasargod, Kerala’s northernmost district.

The seriously wounded are Sisters Bridget Pulakkudiyil and Sister Layons Manimala.

Efforts are underway to bring the body to Puthethara’s native land.
