Bengaluru, Jan 31, 2024: The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) began its 36th general body meeting on January 31 with a solemn Mass at St. John’s Auditorium in Bengaluru.

The main celebrant was Archbishop Leopoldo Girelli, the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal.

In his message, Archbishop Girelli highlighted the importance of zeal, commitment, and joy in following the teachings of Jesus Christ.

As the day marked the feast of St John Bosco, the founder of Salesian congregations, Archbishop Girelli said the saint is a shining example of his zeal for Jesus and unwavering commitment to his missions.

Drawing parallels to the trust of King David of the Old Testament in God despite his weaknesses, the archbishop encouraged the faithful to trust in the Almighty in both difficult and joyful circumstances. The prelate also stressed the need for individuals to be disciples of Jesus first and then take on roles as shepherds and fishermen, caring for others with genuine concern.

The opening session of the conference’s biennial meeting was held at St. John’s Auditorium.
