Siliguri, Feb. 6, 2026: Rector Major of Salesians Fr. Fabio Attard on a visit to Siliguri released “Centennial Reflections: 100 Years of Salesians in Kolkata,” February 6, 2026.
The book published by Salesian College Research and Publication Centre, Sonada has a 247-pages and is edited by Fr. Dr. Tomy Augustine, SDB and Sr. Pascalina Lepcha, SJC.
The book, which includes notes on 11 contributors, is the outcome of a national seminar on Mission, Evangelization, and Faith Formation: Rejuvenating the Mission 100 Years of Salesians in Kolkata, organized as part of the province’s centenary celebrations.
The seminar brought together archbishop, bishop, theologians, educators, and religious leaders to revisit the biblical, pastoral, and socio-cultural foundations of the Salesian mission in eastern India.
Keynote speaker Salesian Bishop George Palliparambil, called the centenary a moment of gratitude and renewal. Other contributors included Dr. Solomon Rongpi on the biblical basis of mission, Fr. Dr. Gilbert Choondal, SDB on digital catechesis, Fr. George Thirumalachalil, SDB on the beginnings of the mission among diverse communities, Sr. Dr. Genevieve Hazel Sitkhaïn, MSMHC on lived faith, and Most Rev. Thomas Menamparampil, SDB on redemption through difficulties.
The second half of the volume features reflections on Catholic education, socio-developmental involvement, and the evolving identity of the Indian Church, with contributions from Fr. Dr. John Felix Raj, SJ, Sr. Dr. Teresa Joseph, FMA, Fr. Dr. Jose Chunkapura, SDB, and Fr. Dr. C.D. Sebastian, MST.
In his valedictory address, Fr. Joseph Palamthattel, SDB urged renewed commitment to evangelization through education, social involvement, and pastoral care, ensuring that the Salesian charism continues to inspire future generations.
