Ranchi, April 14, 2026: The Capuchin community is grieving the sudden death of Father Jyoti Prakash Tigga, 45, who died April 13 after sustaining a fatal head injury in an accident at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Ranchi, according to Catholic Connect.

Brother Sumit Dungdung reported that the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. while construction was underway on a new church building. Father Tigga reportedly fell from a newly built balcony and was rushed to Sadar Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Born in Suajore village under Harasmara Parish in Sundargarh district of Odisha, Father Tigga was remembered as a diligent student from his early years. He completed primary education in Telendihi and later studied at New Orissa High School, Gaibira, where he was recognized for his academic discipline.

In his religious life, Father Tigga served in education and formation, earning respect as a committed member of the Capuchin Order. His death has deeply shocked fellow friars, clergy, and the faithful.

The funeral Mass will be held April 15 at 2 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, where clergy, religious, and parishioners are expected to gather in prayer and remembrance.
