Bengaluru, May 5, 2026: The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) released the updated National Catechetical Directory, titled “Fostering of Faith of the Pilgrim People,” on May 3 at St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences during the CCBI National Synodal Assembly.

The directory was unveiled by Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão of Goa, President of the CCBI and the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences, alongside Cardinal Antony Poola of Hyderabad, Archbishop Peter Machado of Bangalore, Archbishop Vincent Aind of Ranchi, and Salesian Bishop George Palliparambil of Miao.

Originally approved by the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelisation in 2014, the revised edition reflects recent Church teachings and social trends while retaining its core framework.

The CCBI Commission for Faith Formation coordinated the update with contributions from clergy and religious.

Prepared for India’s diverse context, the directory provides norms and guidelines for bishops, priests, catechists, educators, and seminarians.

It emphasizes the link between catechesis, evangelisation, worship, communion, and service, aiming to unify proclamation while respecting cultural diversity.
