Warangal, May 9, 2026: Pope Leo XIV has appointed Father Vijaya Paul Reddy Duggimpudi, 61, as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Warangal. He becomes the fourth Bishop of the diocese.
Born on Jan. 8, 1965, in Manugonda, Telangana, Bishop-elect Reddy studied philosophy and theology at St. John’s Major Seminary, Hyderabad, and earned degrees from Osmania and Annamalai universities. He was ordained a priest on April 2, 1992.
Over three decades, he has served in pastoral, educational, and administrative roles, including Parish Priest of Devagiripatnam, Director of Fatima College of Education, and Director of Christu Jyothi Institute of Technology and Science.
Since April 2025, he has been Diocesan Administrator of Warangal following the transfer of Bishop Udumala Bala as Archbishop of Visakhapatnam in February 2025.
The Diocese of Warangal, erected in 1952, covers 24,702 square kilometers across Warangal and Karimnagar districts. It serves 85,502 Catholics in 78 parishes, with 92 diocesan priests, 187 religious priests, and 650 religious sisters.
The Holy See confirmed the appointment, noting Bishop-elect Reddy’s long service and leadership. He succeeds Bishop Bala, who was transferred to Visakhapatnam in February 2025.
