Kolkata, Sept. 14, 2026: Another alarming attack on a minority prayer fellowship has shaken Sinni village under Dantan 2 block in Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal, near the Odisha border.
According to eyewitnesses, a group of communal miscreants barged into a house church during Sunday worship, hurling abuse and violently disrupting the service.
When female members confronted the intruders, they were beaten and assaulted. Several women were forcibly abducted and held captive for nearly ninety minutes.
News of the assault quickly reached the Bangiya Khristiya Parisheba (BCP, Bengal Christian Council), a Christian community organisation. District Secretary Jissai Singh, accompanied by senior leaders, rushed to the spot.
Police personnel from Dantan Police Station also intervened, securing the release of all those detained.
Later, BCP leaders and victims proceeded to the police station to press charges. Advocate Aditya Tewari of the BCP Legal Cell assisted in drafting a formal First Information Report (FIR), which has now been officially registered.
This marks the second major targeted attack in the Dantan block within weeks, raising fears of systematic intimidation of the Christian community.
Herod Mullick, BCP State Founding Secretary, expressed anguish over the government’s silence. “Repeated assaults without strong state response embolden perpetrators and deepen insecurity among minorities,” he said.
Concerns have intensified as several individuals leading violent mobs have reportedly been seen in close proximity to state ministers, fueling suspicions of political patronage and impunity.
The incident underscores the growing vulnerability of minority communities in Paschim Medinipur and the urgent need for accountability.
