Pilar: The Society of Pilar on September 26 celebrated 133 years of its foundation. On the occasion, Pilar Communication Centre, launched “Pilar Divya Sanchar,” the official YouTube channel of the Society of Pilar.

The channel aims to foster peace, harmony and solidarity among people of various faiths and provide a genuine experience of ‘one world, one family,’ Father Elvis Fernandes, an official of Pilar Communication Centre, told Matters India.

The logo of the channel brings out the idea of Divine Communication through the depiction of the conch shell and the three waves emanating from the shell.

In Sanskrit, the conch shell is known as the ‘Shankha’ and has religious importance in the Indian traditions. The conch and its sound are associated with the divine and are believed to be the first sound of creation, explained Fernandes.

One of the videos featured in the channel is the ‘Pilar Hillock’ on which the motherhouse of the Society of Pilar’ stands soaked in the cultural and religious variety and harmony of India, he said.

The Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier, Pilar, commonly referred to as the Society of Pilar or the Pilar Fathers, is a Catholic religious organization of priests and brothers.

The Society of Pilar, founded on September 26, 1887, reorganized by the Vatican on July 2, 1939, has two Bishops, 361 priests, nine Brothers and 72 scholastics preparing for the priesthood.

It works in 32 dioceses all over India and in 10 dioceses abroad including Mauritania, Senegal and Nepal.

By the works, words and presence of its members, it gives the touch of the goodness of God to all peoples, said Father Fernandes.
